Masters' History Bee and Bowl Team came away from the Hudson Valley History Bee and Bowl Championships on April 7 as a winner for the second consecutive year. The team won the varsity division by going undefeated in all of its matches.

The team was led by junior David Oks and included juniors Katie Accetta, Elijah Emery and Shawn Farhadian, and sophomore Emanuel Adamiak, according to coach John Chiodo. The squad now advances to the seventh annual National History Bee and Bowl (NHBB) championships, which will be held in Arlington, Virginia on the weekend of April 27.

In addition to the Masters team qualifying for the national championships, the following students have also qualified to compete at the national level for individual competitions:

  • David Oks – National History Bee and U.S. History Bee (varsity division)
  • Elijah Emery – National History Bee and U.S. History Bee (varsity division)
  • Shawn Farhadian – National Sports and Entertainment History Bee (varsity division)
  • Tim Mathas – U.S. History Bee (junior varsity division)
  • Mitch Fink – U.S. Geography Olympiad (junior varsity division)

The Hudson Valley championships were held at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The NHBB is a series of nationwide history quiz competitions for high school, middle school and elementary students in the United States. To reach the national championships, students must first compete at regional qualifying tournaments. At qualifying tournaments for high school students, participants also have the opportunity to compete in the National History Bee, an individual competition.
