Intercultural Exchange Engages Students

An athletic festival and international gala held on campus on April 22 featured a three-way exchange among students from Masters, Bronx Collaborative High School and Cours Sainte-Marie de Hann in Senegal.

Highlights of the sports festival included a spirited dodge ball game involving teams made up of members of all three schools, as well as competitive games of pool and table tennis.

After the sports event, the School held its first International Exchange Gala, which took place in the Fonseca Center’s Sharon Room. Masters students and faculty and visiting students from Senegal set up tables and shared interesting information about their home countries.

“It was a fun-filled afternoon with food, calligraphy, origami, and a 'scavenger hunt' for facts about participants' native countries,” says Mary Holton, International Student Advisor.

Robert Fish, Global Studies Coordinator, adds: “The afternoon was a great success, and the first of what will be many programs bringing together our students and students from our partner schools in the United States and abroad.”

The day of activities was also the second opportunity for Masters students to work collaboratively with their peers at Bronx Collaborative High School, a public school in the Bronx, NY, according to Mr. Fish.

“As part of our growing efforts to build on the exchange of ideas among Masters students as a central part of their education, we are creating opportunities for our students to engage in cultural exchanges and forums for the sharing of ideas with their peers both domestically and abroad,” Mr. Fish says.
