News From Masters
The boys' varsity soccer squad kept its Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) title defense alive this past week.
In Monday's quarterfinal, the Panthers beat the visiting King School, 4-1, in penalty kicks after the two sides played to a 1-1 draw through regulation and overtime. In Wednesday’s semifinal, Masters bested host Greens Farms Academy (GFA), 3-1, to advance to Saturday’s championship match at top-seeded Hopkins School at 12:00 PM.
Against King, Oladayo Thomas scored the game-tying goal in the 87th minute off a perfectly threaded through ball from Will Stark. Noel Gorodetsky, Daniel Rubin, Joost Olan-Sheehan and Cedar Berrol-Young all converted from the spot in penalty kicks, while keeper Diego Medina made two massive saves in net. The Panthers, who played with 10 men for the final 63 minutes, showed tremendous grit in the victory.
Thomas continued his sublime postseason against GFA, tallying all three goals to power the offense. Stark and Olan-Sheehan each added an assist for the Panthers, who will be vying for their third title in the last four years.
